The boot-up screen for Screen Fighter Alpha 2

Arcade games have been a huge part of the gaming community since their inception. Street Fighter is one of the most popular arcade games that has since been adopted to PC and console gaming. This particular version, Street Fighter Alpha 2 was developed by Capcom in 1996. It is a 2D fighting game in which players select a fighter and have the choice to battle another player or the computer system. The arcade version of the game has an 8-way joystick with 6 buttons for various kinds of attacks.

My experience of playing Street Fighter Alpha 2 with an emulator on the Internet Arcade by archive.org was really fun. It can be accessed with the embedded link above. First, I had to look up controls on how to start playing as they are not clear on the site itself. You have to press 5 to enter coins which starts the game and then you proceed to select your agent by using the arrow keys and pressing the spacebar. The attack keys are control, shift, and the spacebar. Once I got hang of the controls it was really fun to play.

I have played a version of the actual arcade game at Miniboss in San Jose. Playing on the intended hardware system is definitely a far better experience than the emulator. The controls are easier to play with using a joystick compared to tiny keys on a laptop. However, the gameplay itself remains the same which is tons of fun!
